Why we don’t promote rapid or large amounts of weight loss on our holiday...

We feel it is important to help people find the right advice and guidance. This is why we base our information on the guidelines set out by the NHS NICE (national institute for health and clinical excellence) organisation.  Click here to go to there website on preventing obesity and managing weight.

The concept of our holiday is to help you to make simple, lasting changes that will give you great results which can be easily sustained long term – if you are only after a ‘quick fix’ then maybe we are not the organisation for you...

If however you have tried a diet or two / other ‘boot camp’ type holidays or some other kind of rapid weight loss schemes and you feel as though they have perhaps not lived up to all the hype, then please take a moment and read on.

The weight loss industry is unfortunately awash with various quick fix ‘remedies’ but study after study has shown that long term they just don’t work.

These studies show that 1-3lbs of weight loss per (normal) week is the safest and most effective way to lose weight.

It’s true to say that a number of people attending our holiday do actually lose more than this, but that was never the point of the week.  The extra daily activity and healthier food on our holiday normally has a larger result than the normal 1-3lbs of weight loss, but even so, anything more than double this would be unusual and is likely to contain weight lost from muscle and water.  Also the more weight you have to lose the larger the result in the time you are with us.

It’s actually a very simple thing to design a diet low in this or that to elicit a big drop in weight in a short time. Atkins type diets or just those low in carbohydrate have this effect and coupled with hours and hours of daily exercise will have a dramatic effect in a short time.

The problem for us comes when you go back to a normal diet  - which most people inevitably do or drop the excessive exercise due to lack of time or other outside factors.
